    FAQs

    Youth Bike Helmets

Can I purchase a light accessory for any of these helmets?

Yes—most of them! The Bern Diamond Light is compatible with all of our youth helmets except the Tigre. Whether you're picking up the Nino, Nina, Macon 2.0 Jr, or Hendrix Jr, you’ll find a mounting slot in the back of the helmet ready for the Diamond Light. It screws in securely and adds visibility for early morning, late afternoon laps, or just extra peace of mind. You can find the Diamond Light in our Accessories collection or directly on the product page under the 'Pairs Well With' section.

What is the CPSC safety standard?

CPSC stands for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. When a helmet is CPSC certified, it means it meets the federal safety standard for bicycle helmets in the United States. This includes tests for impact protection, strap strength, and coverage to help reduce the risk of head injuries in a crash. All Bern bike helmets meet or exceed CPSC standards—so no matter what style you pick, you’re covered where it counts.

What is the EN 1078 safety standard?

EN 1078 is the European standard for bicycle helmet safety. It tests things like shock absorption, strap durability, and field of vision to ensure helmets protect riders in the event of a fall or collision. If a helmet is EN 1078 certified, it's approved for use throughout Europe; and every Bern helmet with this certification meets or exceeds those requirements. Whether you're cruising city streets or exploring new trails, you're riding with trusted protection.

Can these be used for skiing as well?

If you see 'Bike & Ski Safety Certified' on a product page then yes! If you see EN 1077B or ATSM F2040 in the helmets specs that means it is certified for snow use. That's what makes these true Multi-Sport helmets. You may prefer to rock a beanie under the lid, or just as is when spring riding...but we do offer winter kits for these helmets.

    Adult Winter Liner
    Jr Winter Liner
Nino & Nina DVRT Winter Liner

These winter kits come with the knit to keep you warm, a goggle clip & a bag for the helmet as well.

    Stylish & Solid

Been riding with the Macon 2.0 for a few months and it’s hands down the best helmet I’ve owned. Super comfortable, low-profile look, and I love that I can throw on the visor or light when I need it. 10/10.

    Like A Glove

The Compass Fit system is clutch. I’ve got a weirdly in-between head size and this actually fits. Doesn’t move around when I ride and looks clean with my setup.

    Light Lid

I'm usually not a helmet person but I bought the Brentwood 2.0 and I actually wear it. MIPS makes me feel better riding in the city, and it doesn’t bog me down. Appreciate it!

    Winter. Summer. Same lid.

Picked up a Watts for biking and ended up using it for snowboarding too. Swapped out the liner and boom. Comfortable, warm, and not bulky. Bern gets it.

    My kids wear them. Willingly!

The Nino and Nina helmets are a hit in our house. My kids actually want to put them on because they look cool. As a parent, I appreciate the coverage and certifications.

    My New E-Bike Helmet

The Hudson is everything I wanted in a commuter lid. Super breathable, and that rear light is a game changer for night rides. Bonus: it’s NTA 8776 certified, so I feel good riding it on my e-bike too.

    Mom Approved

I’ve gone through a few helmets with my kids, and the Nino is the first one they don’t argue about wearing. It fits well, stays put, and looks great. Total peace of mind for me, and no fuss for them.
